Evidence of how the CIPR is there to help the 150 people at the conference last week was not very noticeable.

In additions to Simon, there are a number of CIPR Bloggers but this is as it should be.

My point is that New Media is much bigger than this and social media on its own (see below) is a manifestation and not the principle.

Marketing is now being disintermediated, the traditional press is in dire straights, the BBC has a New Media initiative and our client base is not well served during all this change.

Having approached the CIPR a number of times in recent months offering to help, I am concerned that this is drifting and is not top of mind at St James Square.

It is time the CIPR did something much more profound.

My worry about your comment Stephen is "when/if the CIPR does press ahead with engaging in new media channels he'll probably have something to do with it."...

When/if is a long time when so much is changing so fast.David Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10460585131936991211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12018970.post-1147629066009914052006-05-14T17:51:00.000+00:002006-05-14T17:51:00.000+00:00Hi David, As a part-time employee of Tony, I can s...Hi David,

As a part-time employee of Tony, I can say from my experiences that he is indeed eager to learn about these new forms of communication. Saying that, he probably has a firmer grasp of the implications and uses of blogs, podcasts etc than the majority of UK PR pros. Like me, he's a bit of an RSS junky.

Only Friday I put together a proposal for a pitch involving a number of these channels that we in the 'know', know as Web2.0 - which was allocated to me by Tony.

My thoughts are, when/if the CIPR does press ahead with engaging in new media channels he'll probably have something to do with it.

StephenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12018970.post-1147628595673323202006-05-14T17:43:00.000+00:002006-05-14T17:43:00.000+00:00David, great to meet you at last weeks 'Delivering...David, great to meet you at last weeks 'Delivering the New PR' event in London and I fully accept the point you're making about overly late adoption.

That said I think it's worth mentioning that this year's CIPR Northern Conference which is being hosted by the Yorkshire & Lincolnshire group in Leeds on the 6th of July does feature a workshop on blogging and other new PR tools. The session will be delivered by Philip Young and Stuart Bruce and will undoubtedly be one of the 'must see' workshops on the day.

I'd also add that the CIPR have supported all of the three 'Delivering the New PR' events so far and many of the Institute's members have taken the opportunity to attend and embrace the new technology. Simon Collister's excellent Simonsays blog immediately springs to mind.

Regards,

Andrew

http://simoncollister.typepad.com/

http://www.cipr.co.uk/northernconference/northernconference.htm

http://eventualities.blog.co.uk/Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13441809988487585009noreply@blogger.com
